SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker II (82475) in Abbeville County, South Carolina
Trains to operate 5 yard dump trucks in hauling materials, pipe, and equipment to and from job sites. Performs manual labor necessary to hand clear right of ways, clean out drainage ditches, repair shoulders of roadway, patch potholes, install drives, repair bridges, and lay sideline/crossline drainage pipe. During roadway maintenance and repair, set up signs and performs flagging operations at job site to direct traffic safety around workers and equipment. Trains in the operation of heavier equipment such as tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and rollers. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Trains to operate dump truck with sand spreader and snow plow attachment during inclement weather.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License are available.
