SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker 2B in Aiken County, South Carolina
Trains in proper maintenance techniques with SCDOT, while performing duties using manual labor during roadway and right of way maintenance activities. Areas of work may include, but are not limited to, signage and pavement markings, driveway installation and maintenance, construction of drainage appurtenances, maintenance of drainage appurtenances, litter/debris removal, vegetation management, bridge maintenance and patching/paving. Trains in the operation of standard dump truck while hauling materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites. Maintains working knowledge and practices of work zone safety in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Trains in the operation of small equipment, power tools, and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for protection of workers, equipment and general public during maintenance operations. Trains in the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies and procedures for fleet safety. Trains in the operation of standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and salt spreader to remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisors or the Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A tenth (10th) grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License. NOTE: This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License. However, applicants without a Class B Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class B Commercial Driver's License are available. Class B Commercial Driver's License must be attained within six (6) months of placement in the position.
