Job Summary

Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking an Associate Safety and Health Specialist t to be based in our Aiken, SC location.

The Associate Safety and Health Specialist monitors, analyzes, and investigates workplace activities and potential hazards to support company initiatives within assigned area or facility(s) through review of work packages, assessments, walk downs, and/or observations. Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Responsible for identifying and mitigating hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local and organization occupational safety and health standards, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities.


  • Accepts delegated technical responsibility of limited scope within the Safety and Health (S&H) Program.

  • Under close supervision, evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks.

  • Educates, observes, and ensures all personnel are performing work in compliance to all company S&H policy and procedures.

  • Performs basic practices of occupational S&H by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards in the workplace through assisting with job scopes reviews, walk downs, and general observations.

  • Assists with investigations of accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in assigned area.

  • Assists with assessments and supports emergency response drills as assigned by management.

  • Attends Local Safety Improvement Team (LSIT) meetings.

  • Applies basic knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements to assist in the safety of work activities within assigned area.

  • Familiarizes with company safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with previous internships in the field of Safety and Health preferred OR;

  • Currently working toward a Bachelor's degree in the field of Safety and Health from an accredited university with an expected completion date before June 30, 2019.

  • Associates degree and 2+ years related experience OR;

  • High school diploma/GED and 4+ years related experience

  • Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene or related science.
