SC Department of Public Safety Trades Specialist in Bamberg County, South Carolina
Under general supervision performs routine to complex maintenance and repair tasks in such areas as carpentry, masonry, electrical, heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and grounds. Work consists of repair and re-build , painting, troubleshooting and repairing HVAC units, wiring, replacing electrical fixtures, etc.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate's degree and two (2) years directly related work experience; or a high school diploma and four (4) years directly related work experience.
In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate will have knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in trades work. Knowledge of techniques, methods, requirements and practices used in trades work. Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment. Skill in making emergency and general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building, repair and maintenance work. Ability to read blueprints, plans and specifications. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to communicate effectively and use sound judgment and initiative to complete routine work without direct supervision.
May be assigned to perform duties and responsibilities at any of the college's three county service area locations, including the Main Campus in Denmark, SC or its sites located in Barnwell and Allendale counties. This position will require extended work hours as work dictates. Physical requirements will require bending, stooping, climbing ladders, squatting, and lifting of 40 pounds or more unassisted. Must maintain a valid driver's license. Will require working adverse weather conditions and will require "call back" to the workplace in response to emergencies as needed.
