SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker KC20 2D *61033458* Berkeley Maintenance in Berkeley County, South Carolina

Operates and maintains boom mowers, flail cutters, gyrotracs and tiger saws in the vegetation removal within the SCDOT right-of-way. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools including chain saws and pole saws and uses hand tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Operates 5 to 10 yard standard dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, motoring public and equipment. Operates front-end loader in the loading of materials needed for maintenance operations, earth materials, clay, sand and aggregate. Assists during emergencies removing fallen trees, hazardous weather for the safety of the public. When crew is in "on-call" status, is available 24 hours a day. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements: A 10th grade education and two and one-half (2.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid drivers license is required. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
