Job Responsibilities THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING, ONLY THOSE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED WITH SCDOT SHOULD APPLY Assists in office and managerial procedures and making routine daily decisions concerning engineering and construction practices on assigned construction projects. Corresponds and coordinates work between contractors and the Department on assigned projects to ensure smooth progress of work. Assists with investigating and responding to inquiries and complaints from the public. Assists with preparing project estimates, project closeouts and final construction plans. Prepares and maintains daily, weekly and monthly construction/office reports, forms and logs. Maintains construction records until completion of each assigned project. Coordinates with the utility companies for the relocation of utilities on assigned projects. Performs inspection duties and manages projects as assigned in following areas including but not limited to: pavement markings, guardrail, cable rail, encroachment permits, and surveying. Ensures compliance with the contract, plans, standards and specifications. Performs asphalt inspection duties and ensures compliance with the contract, plans, standards and specifications. Performs concrete inspection duties and ensures compliance with the contract, plans, standards and specifications. Performs erosion control and earthwork inspection duties and ensures compliance with the contract, plans, standards and specifications. Monitors work zones on assigned projects as a certified Work Zone inspector to ensure traffic control devices are placed according to SCDOT and MUTCD standards. Notifies the contractor promptly of traffic control deficiencies and/or safety issues, and ensures deficiencies are corrected immediately. Obtains samples and performs various field tests of construction materials for compliance with the Department's specifications. Ensures that minimum sampling requirements, testing requirements, and testing frequencies are followed and manufacturer’s certifications are received. Records sampling data and certifications into SiteManager, ProjectWise and applicable logs and tracks results. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
