Carver Companies is seeking a Construction Estimator for our North Charleston Location.
The estimator is responsible for completing a thorough bid estimate that is complete and ready for a review by the Vice President. This includes, but is not limited to researching new opportunities, job site visits, full understanding of the bid documents, accurate & organized bid estimates. They shall work closely with the Vice President and Project Managers to determine the future workload needs and successfully deliver new projects to continue the divisions growth.
Essential Job Functions:
Research and locate projects that fit the divisions requirements
Analyze drawings and specifications to fully understand contractual terms and conditions
Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates in a timely manner with detailed take-offs
Organize sub-contractors' quotations, negotiate to insure quotes meet contract documents
Attend pre-bid meetings to look at the jobsites and ask appropriate questions
Review the complete estimate with the Vice President
Establish and maintain working relationships with sub-contractors and vendors
Ensure Project Managers and field personnel are providing with proper documentation
Review and maintain unit pricing for labor and equipment costing
Meet with potential clients to discuss options for proposed services
Make jobsite visits to discuss projects with General Superintendent, Foremen & employees
Attends meetings and develops company involvement with local industry events and associations, and encourages participation by individuals within the division
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with 3-5 years of field experience; or 5-10 years of related field or estimating experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and fully comprehend construction drawings and specifications
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with management, field personnel and clients
Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with pressure to deliver the pricing on a deadline
Must be detailed and highly organized
Minimum of 3-5 years of construction experience
Must be proactive and solution oriented
Knowledge in HCSS Heavybid a plus
