The Building People General Maintenance Worker II in Charleston, South Carolina
Currently, The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time General Maintenance Worker II. The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work also involves the installation of new systems furniture, case goods furniture, and technical workbenches including the break-down and reconfiguration of existing systems furniture, case goods and technical workbenches. Work includes the installation of wiring harnesses, power poles and base in-feeds. variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
A minimum of a high school diploma (HSD) or equivalent is required for this position, plus two years of experience.
Listed below are required and preferred qualifications for this position.
Five (5) years experience performing general maintenance, furniture Installation, breakdown and repair, and repair of facilities equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and sketches.
Applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Answer after-hours emergency calls and be available to work overtime as needed
Must be able to manage workload on a daily basis with little supervision
Must be able to handle multiple projects, changing priorities and managing heavy workloads
EPA Certification preferred
Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain one, preferred but not required.
Federal Government experience a plus.
Physical Requirements for this position include:
Ability to repeatedly lift and carry objects of up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb and work from ladders
Stooping, standing, climbing and frequently lifting equipment (pump, tools, ladders) with a minimum of 50 lbs
