Job Responsibilities

Operates combination tractor mowers (sickle/rotary) in cutting right-of-ways and shoulders. Operates a tandem dump trucks or 5 yard dump truck for hauling equipment and materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipes, rock, construction materials and debris. Operates medium duty equipment such as chipper machine for grinding and mulching tree limbs debris from right-of-way. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as pothole patching, base repairs, chip seal, paving operation, clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, litter control, dead animal, repairing shoulders, repair to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Operates chain saw in cutting trees on right-of-way, weed eater, pruner to cut underbrush from bridges that are not under contract. Trains in the operation of heavier equipment; motor graders, backhoe (tree removal & cleaning ditches), street sweeper (to sweep and clean roads). Operates front end loader in loading of materials needed for maintenance operations, e.g. earth materials, clay, sand, and aggregate. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A 10th grade education and two and one-half (2.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid drivers license is required. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
