Horry Telephone Cooperative Construction Intern in Conway, South Carolina

Monday - Friday / 7:00 am - 6:00 pm / Interns can only work 39 hours per weekExperience:Zero to two years related experience and/or training.Job Knowledge:Heavy construction, electronics, computer, communications or related experience and a CDL permit/license preferred.Must become familiar with and learn to read and interpret cable records, specifications and staking sheets.Must be able to operate and properly maintain automotive, bracing, hoisting and hydraulic equipment such as pole trucks, plows, tractors, digging, boring and trenching machines.Must be able to use shovel and all types of cable locators and use correct flagging and sign procedures.Must report defective tools or equipment in order that they may be replaced or repaired.Must have a state valid driver's license with a good driving record.Basic personal computer skills such as electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.Must have a knowledgeable working experience with the following software: MS Outlook; WOTS; IRSPhysical Demands:Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use of hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell and lift more than 100 pounds.Vision Requirements:Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).Working Conditions:Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation or outdoor shop environment.Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.)Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions.Other physical working conditions.May work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), near moving mechanical parts, high or dangerous places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or corrosive chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration and Loud (example: large earth-moving equipment).Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily technical nature.Special Demands:Must have a valid state driver's license.Must comply with and maintain compliance with motor vehicle record guidelines as listed within the Background Investigation Guidelines.Ability to accept responsibility for works under occasional stressful situations.Hours scheduled except for emergencies.Must be safety-minded and comply with all safety rules, regulations and procedures.Must become familiar with the considerable hazards that exist in connection with the construction or maintenance of any phase of outside plant work including fall, electric shock or flash, falling objects, traffic, etc.Must be a self motivated person.Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental, interdepartmental and corporate goals.Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.Must demonstrate competencies including quality, teamwork, efficiency and service.
