The SH&E Director is responsible for the safety management of Sunbelt’s Power/HVAC and Climate Control Specialty Divisions. The primary objective is to ensure the Divisions build the desired safety culture while also achieving the company’s safety goals. This person will assist the Operational Vice Presidents and Regional Managers in meeting their safety goals through the efforts of department safety managers and safety supervisors

The director works closely with Sunbelt Rentals’ SH&E Territory Directors to ensure strong support for the Power, HVAC and Climate Control Specialties. The director should show an ability to lead with servant leadership traits, direct, plan work schedules, delegate work on a daily basis, develop and mentor employees and take corrective actions when necessary. The director should also be proficient in managing multiple sites, managing ambiguity, and providing inputs to strategy and vision. This position will also become the SH&E subject matter expert (SME) and strategic leader for the aforementioned three Specialty business areas.

Experience and Professional Skills

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state and local.

  • Ability, through demonstrated experience, to accomplish the following: conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements; develop, implement and maintain employee training programs; establish and maintain complete safety and training records; and develop, update and manage workplace safety programs, procedures and policies.

  • At least four years management experience in industrial safety and employee training along with experience managing and leading others.

  • Cross functional business experience managing and engaging with all functions of a business.

Other Skills

  • The Director must have demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in using common word processing software, spreadsheet software, database applications, project and presentation software, email, contact management and scheduling software.

Position Responsibilities

  • Partners closely with the SH&E Territory Directors for deployment of a regional safety manager (RSM) network for effective support of the Power, HVAC and Climate Control Specialty businesses.

  • Develops, implements and manages the division’s safety program, policies and procedures.

  • Ensures continual safety improvements and set annual objectives and targets. Monitor results and audit process.

  • Recommends policies and procedures to reduce safety risk and occupational health exposures.

  • Works with Risk Management to ensure proper execution of worker’s compensation programs.

  • Ensures that safety programs meet legal requirements.

  • Works with other safety departments in the company on developing and recommending policies and procedures for the company.

  • Monitors the Specialty division’s performance through audits and reporting. Identify potential problems and trends to bring to attention of operation management.

Education and Requirements

  • College Degree in Safety and Health or equivalent in experience and training certificates.

  • At least five years experience in safety management.

  • At least five years experience leading and influencing others.
