SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker II Band/Level 2/D (357.01) ***Re-Advertisement*** in Greenville County, South Carolina
Under general supervision, helps skilled trades workers perform repairs, maintenance or construction. May operate motorized equipment used in the maintenance of highways or the movement of materials, supplies and equipment. may independently perform maintenance tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skill. May function as lead worker for small crew of workers. Operates compressors, concrete mixer, jack hammer, mechanical aggregate spreader, mud jack, asphalt kettle, culvert cleaner and asphalt booster (bridge operations). Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairs to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Assists in the repairs/construction of state-owned bridges. Trains in the operation of standard dump truck while hauling materials, supplies and equipment to and from job site. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Maintains working knowledge and practices of work zone safety in accordance with the SCMUTCD manual. Operates small equipment, power tools and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the department's most current rules, policies and procedures for fleet safety. Assists other state/district/county crews as needed. Performs any other duties as requested in emergency situations. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A 10th grade education and two and one-half (2.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid commercial driver's license. (Note): This position requires a class A commercial driver's license. However, applicants without a class A commercial driver's license will be considered if no qualified applicants with a class A commercial driver's license are available. However, applicants are required to obtain a class A commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment.
May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends or holidays, and during inclement weather or other emergencies.
