SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker II-Heavy Equipment Operator - 61033541 - Jasper Maintenance in Jasper County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING. ONLY THOSE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED WITH SCDOT SHOULD APPLY. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repair to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Assist in paving operations and flags traffic when needed. Operates large motor graders in ditching, shoulder operations, grading and machining roads, driveway installation or snow and ice removal. Operates combination front-end loader and backhoe to clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline and cross line pipe and loading truck and cutting shoulders. Operates tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, coquina, etc. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the maintenance requests and complaints forms. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, to include operating medium or heavy duty equipment. May include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other job related duties, as required by supervisor, including on call for after hour emergencies.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
