Job Summary/Purpose : Under general supervision of the Chief Quality Officer, the Safety & Quality Specialist will direct all patient safety activities within the Medical Center to assure compliance with statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to safety as defined by organizations including but not limited to Joint Commission, CMS, American College of Surgeons, Leapfrog and AHRQ. Will coordinate the processes and systems necessary for the evaluation, monitoring, and interpreting regulations and compliance activities to assure the objective of maintaining compliance to all safety requirements, and will provide education to hospital leadership, clinical personnel, and medical staff members related to patient safety initiatives as appropriate.

Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor’s degree and seven years of related experience. At least 2 years of experience in patient safety/risk management preferred. Extensive knowledge of the medical field and medical terminology, the ability to proactively focus on patient safety, accreditation standards and system improvements required. RN or LPN preferred with current South Carolina or compact state certification, licensure, and/or registration applicable to clinical designation.
