SC Department of Public Safety Environmental Health Manager II - OSHA Outreach and Education in Lexington County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, conducts scheduled OSHA Outreach safety consultations of general industry and/or construction sites and public sector to ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the requirements of OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and assists in the SC OSHA Outreach Program. Promotes Outreach programs to reduce industrial accidents. Evaluates safety and health programs. Participates as a team member on OSHA Outreach Programs on-site audits, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). Evaluates safety systems, provides Outreach assistance with the development or enhancement of these systems to include requirements for OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and submits written reports of findings/hazards. Conducts scheduled safety consultation visits at general industry and/or construction sites to detect safety hazards and ensure compliance with federal/state laws and regulations; includes complex and specialized consultations. Formulates recommendations to correct safety hazards where applicable. Ensures that consultations are conducted in compliance with the OSHA Policies and Procedures Manual. May serve as team leader on complex consultation visits. Participates in planning and executing of Regional events and conferences to include training and assistance to Outreach Program, State safety conference and any other OSHA event as needed. Submits written consultation reports via computer system, documenting alleged hazards and recommendations for corrective action to be completed within prescribed time frames. Completes consultation Form 33 for each report as required. Completes and submits any other reports as required. Assists the Outreach Coordinator with other duties as needed. Maintains professional knowledge through continuing education and instructional meetings.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Weekly travel with some overnight travel. Must have a valid SC driver's license. Must be able to navigate an industrial worksite.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and three years experience in occupational safety and health programs.
