SC Department of Public Safety Environmental Health Manager II in Lexington County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Researches, investigates and provides written/oral interpretations on all health standards as needed, including those requested in writing and by telephone.

Provides interpretations and technical assistance on OSHA health standards to the OSHA State Plan Manager, all agency personnel, public and private sector employers and employees.

Manages the sampling program for the OSHA Enforcement Division to include packing and shipping of samples and reviewing billing for accuracy. Responsible for assisting with the OSHA equipment inventory. Coordinates with the Compliance Manager on the repair of existing equipment and purchase of new safety and health equipment.

Investigates, researches, and recommends health standards for adoption. Assists with public hearings to adopt OSHA health standards and amendments. Assists in the preparation of SC OSHA Information Memorandums and Program Directives. Researches, evaluates and provides opinions on variance requests for health standards from employers within South Carolina. Assists with variance hearings and writing orders.

Performs other duties, as assigned, i.e. conducting respiratory fit tests, making standard/regulation presentations to various groups.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience. An acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) that complies with state fleet guidelines.

May require some overnight travel. May be required to drive a state vehicle. Must be physically able to lift 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful completion of the OSHA Training Program or two years experience in Occupational Safety and Health. Must have 12 semester hours in chemistry and three years experience in industrial hygiene programs.
