SC Department of Public Safety OSHA Officer II - OSHA Safety Compliance (2 Positions) in Lexington County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities * Attend and complete all modules of the SC OSHA Training Course. Attend and complete the basic course development class at the OSHA Training Institute. Learn and demonstrate hazard identification and recognize/suggested industry standards as methods of remediation for workplace hazards. Study and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the OSHA Act, OSHA Mission, OSHA Laws and Regulations, SC OSHA's Field Operations Manual, and their application to the policies and procedures for conducting both programmed and unprogrammed inspections. Must be able to demonstrate the importance and application of Information Memorandums, Program Directives, and Office Memos in hazard recognition and the development of citations to be issued to an employer. Must be able to utilize the resources of other agencies’ data for supporting hazard recognition (i.e. NFPA, ANSI, etc.). Participate in mock scenarios to demonstrate knowledge of these requirements and the entire inspection process from the opening to the closing conference. * Must learn and be able to accurately document time and travel for both office and field work in the required data base systems such as the weekly program activity report (OSHA 31), SCEIS, Assignment sheets, Status reports and other required reports. Will first attend and later assist higher level OSHA Safety Officers with field inspections at employer worksites throughout the state, apply learned policy and procedures, be able to demonstrate the use of specialized field equipment and checklists. * Collects and evaluates data, assist with written inspection reports in the OSHA Express data base to include documentation of alleged violations, recommendation of citations to be issued, penalties assessed, abatement guidelines and abatement dates. Attend other learning modules through observation of informal conferences and hearings as available. * Conducts an assigned inspection while under direct supervision. Attends professional development classes as required by the agency and other duties assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree and experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs. Must have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets State Fleet and agency guidelines and the ability to drive a state vehicle. Ascend/descend ladders and stairs; ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain; ability to determine and identify hazards in the work environment; stoop/kneel and crouch; extensive travel with frequent overnight stays. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree, some experience with Occupational Safety and/or Health programs.
