BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Process Safety Management Specialist in Moncks Corner, South Carolina

This position is responsible for building, implementing, organizing and maintaining the facility's OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) Programs as required by the OSHA 1910.119 and internal BD standards.

  • Conduct internal PSM compliance audits.

  • Facilitate pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR) for new processes and potential expansions.

  • Lead the local BD Emergency Response Team, include coordinating all training and drills. Manage Emergency Response Plans and contingency planning, and coordinate the plans with the local emergency provider committees (LEPC). Maintain a line of communications with local and regional First Response, Fire, HazMat and emergency response agencies.

  • Excellent communicating skills, both verbal and written, as well as a professional and courteous attitude.

  • Hold monthly PSM team meetings

  • Serve as resource for PSM training and knowledge development. Coach and train applicable employees on PSM related issues

  • Assist and/or lead in site Life-Safety initiatives, including security and interface with Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

  • Assist the Company’s OSHA and EPA regulated facilities with managing, coordinating, and implementing all fourteen (14) elements of the PSM standard to verify and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Lead and facilitate process hazard analysis (PHA).

  • Provide leadership, counsel, and technical assistance to the operations managers, technical advisors, maintenance manager, safety supervisor, plant engineering, and plant personnel regarding process safety management to attain regulatory compliance.

  • Proficient in reading and understanding Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Participate in and lead PSM incident investigations, including root cause analysis.

  • Maintain effective and compliant operating procedures.

  • Develop and implement key performance indicators to track the progress of the facility’s PSM program.

  • Experience interfacing with Regulatory Agency Personnel.

  • Effective time management and communication skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Formal PSM 1910.119 training

  • PSM Auditor Certification

  • Process Hazard Analysis methodology knowledge

  • Process Hazard Analysis leader

  • 40 hour HAZWoper certification

  • Knowledge of flammable safety and electrical classifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, or related science such as chemistry, physics or other environmental or safety science. Will consider other degrees where candidate has significant, direct experience with PSM program elements.

  • Minimum of two years of experience of proven Process Safety Management experience in a regulated process environment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands or arms (to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls). The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

  • The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform this job safely.
