Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, inspects roads for deficiencies in pavement, shoulder, ditch, drainage, sign reflectivity, sign installation, guardrail and cable barrier conditions; and prepares reports and documentation for inspections. Oversees and coordinates the Adopt-A-Highway program for Oconee County. Conducts field inspection for moderate level contracts such as roadway mowing, vegetation or tree removal, street sweeping, etc. where field measurements for payment are required. Verifies field quantities for pay estimates. Keeps diaries and field notes. Performs inspection work in at least two or more specialized areas. Performs routine inspection of roadways to include low/high shoulders, pavement markings, signs, potholes, ditches and other roadway defects. Assists the utility inspector in making routine inspections to permitted projects. Inspects for traffic control deficiencies. Required to work during inclement weather or other emergencies. Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements


A high school diploma and six (6) months of experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience

A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends or holidays and during inclement weather or other emergencies.
