SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker II (61034761) Band/Level 2/C (337.01) in Oconee County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

nder general supervision, helps skilled trades workers perform repairs, maintenance, or construction of State Maintained Roadways. May operate motorized equipment used in the maintenance of highways and bridges or the movement of materials, supplies and equipment. May independently perform maintenance tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skill. Trains in the operations of a trailer mounted pipe washer in cleaning driveway and cross line pipes. Trains in the operation of medium equipment such as a skid steer in cleaning ditches and placing pipe, machining shoulders, spreading and leveling materials in order to ensure proper drainage of the roadway. Operates a 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed trucks for hauling materials such as stone, dirt, pipe, construction materials and debris. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Removes litter, debris, and dead animals from roadway and right of ways. Operates mowing tractor. Trains in the operation of tandem dump truck. Operates a standard dump truck with snow plower attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A 10th grade education and one and one-half (1.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.

A valid commercial driver's license. Applicants are required to obtain a class A commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment. The SCDOT will assist with this process.

May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends or holidays, and during inclement weather or other emergencies.
