SC Department of Public Safety General Maintenance Technician I - 101248 in Richland County, South Carolina
Under the supervision of the DMV Maintenance Manager performs a variety of routine and manual tasks and activities for general building maintenance of agency locations. Assist daily with daily maintenance of facilities to include repairs, custodial and janitorial tasks, grounds maintenance and assist in the general upkeep of facilities.
Job Functions: 1. Use the necessary hand tools or equipment to perform general and routine maintenance SCDMV headquarters building and facilities including general repairs, painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, plumbing, heating and cooling systems.
Assists facilities staff statewide with complex projects and or general maintenance.
Conduct routine inspections and performs preventative assessments or maintenance to address safety hazards.
Maintains grounds and common areas to ensure they are operational, safe and clean.
Other duties as assigned by Facilities Maintenance Manager and Chief of Facilities.
Performs limited landscaping duties or maintenance.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
No state minimum requirement. *Agency preferred requirement: * A high school diploma or GED and relevant experience in performing building maintenance. Valid SC Driver's license.
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow directions. Employee will be responsible for assisting skilled employees in performing more difficult maintenance activities or they may perform maintenance tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skills. Helps skilled trades workers perform maintenance and repair tasks in such areas as carpentry, grounds maintenance, parking lots, organizing storage buildings, locksmiths, electricity, HVAC, plumbing, and painting.
Under general supervision performs simple building maintenance tasks; and assist with more complex maintenance activities. Must be able to work independently on small projects under the guidance of supervisor and work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
Maintain a valid SC Driver's License. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and lift up to 50 pounds. Carry an agency cell phone, work flexible schedules based on need and occasional overnight travel is required.
