Job Responsibilities

*SCDOT INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY* Repairs potholes and base surface failures of roadway using hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake and asphalt lute to level asphalt as needed. Trains in the operation of heavier equipment such as tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and back. Performs duties using manual labor in clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, making base repairs, repairs to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Operates 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed trucks for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment specifications. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other related job duties as requested or signed by supervisor.

This position is located in District 1 - Richland Maintenance

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A 10th grade education and one and one-half (1.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.

A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Note: This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver's License are available.

Class A Commercial Driver's License must be attained within six (6) months of placement in the position.

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
