Job Responsibilities

This position is located within Division of Facilities Management and Property Services (DFMPS) at the Governor's Mansion Complex facility. Under general supervision, the incumbent will provide building maintenance services to repair and maintain interior and exterior areas of the facility. The incumbent will also serve as the General Maintenance Technician by actively supporting and assisting other general maintenance trades specialists in the planning for, implementation of and completion of assigned maintenance, repair and renovation of general maintenance and building tasks; ensuring facilities are in safe working order and compliant with local and national codes and regulations; executing work orders in the repair, preventive and planned maintenance and completion of renovation projects; providing support and performing the maintenance, repair and renovation tasks and assisting other trade areas, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, swimming pool and fountain maintenance. Incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with special events and working on equipment and/or systems that are low and/or medium voltage in nature. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:A high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 10 years of experience in all phases of general commercial facility repair, planned and preventive maintenance practices.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have extensive knowledge in the area of carpentry and have general knowledge across multiple trades including, but not limited to: electrical, plumbing, plaster/masonry, painting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning and water fountain. Must have skills to safely and responsibly operate equipment such as, but not limited to: drills, saws, routers, pneumatic tools, jack hammers, aerial lifts. Incumbent must be familiar and be able to operate cell phones, computers, note pads and personal digital assistant (PDA). Must be familiar with electrical safety and testing equipment. Must possess a valid South Carolina Class D driver's license, as routine driving duties are a requirement for this position. Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for long periods of time; climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding; lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in confined spaces; hot, hazardous, and noisy locations; and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to work in fountain pump pits, manholes, and have good manual dexterity and coordination. Position requires work during inclement weather and emergency conditions. Position may require work after hours or on weekends. Overtime and after-hours pay subject to current policies and procedures by Department of Administration and DFMPS. Work cell phones shall be charged and on his or her person during the work day and strongly encouraged to have available at all times in case of emergencies.
